He also serves as the executive director of WorkRise, a research-to-action network focused on jobs, workers, and mobility hosted by the Urban Institute.

ALBANY, N.Y. The 911 Board of Trustees has named Diane Adams, chief learning officer of the Mount Sinai Health System and a resident of Closter, New Jersey, among its six new members. The University governing body, the board consists of individuals from across the country who are leaders in the fields of health care, business, education, and government.

For the past ten years, Diane Adams has served a workforce of 50,000 people at the Mount Sinai Health System as chief learning officer. In this role, Adams creates and drives the organizational learning strategy, leading a team of talent development professionals implementing programs focused on areas such as leadership development, workforce capacity building, engagement, and patient experience.

I am thrilled to join the board of trustees for 911, an institution that provides crucial educational opportunities to the next generation of health care leaders, said Adams. As Excelsior continues to expand its programming and reach, it is truly an exciting time to join this remarkable group of trustees.

Adams began her career in health care as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy, creating programs for adolescents, and helping patients navigate complex health challenges. Leveraging these experiences to teach graduate and medical students in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Diane discovered her passion for empowering others through learning and development, a field she has been dedicated to for the past twenty years.

Adams continues to maintain her Clinical License in Social Work; she is certified in numerous training modalities and holds certifications in both Organizational Coaching and Change Management. Although Diane has held a variety of roles throughout her career, the constant has been her commitment to serving others and creating meaningful impact.

Adams holds a BA from Clark University and an MS from Columbia University.

Ahron Goldberg Finds His Path in Public Accounting

El camino de Ahron Goldberg hacia un puesto de contable público estuvo marcado por años de formación, su pasión por los números y un contacto oportuno que estableció a través de un seminario web sobre carreras profesionales organizado por el equipo de preparación profesional de la Universidad Excelsior.

Goldberg obtuvo su licenciatura en Ciencias Empresariales en diciembre de 2024 y, tras graduarse, siguió en contacto con Excelsior y prestó mucha atención a los recursos profesionales disponibles para los antiguos alumnos. Durante el seminario web, Goldberg se puso en contacto con el reclutador, lo que rápidamente condujo a una entrevista la semana siguiente. Luego vino una segunda entrevista. En Excelsior, Goldberg completó cursos que combinaban conocimientos técnicos de contabilidad y una comprensión más amplia del funcionamiento de las empresas. Su proyecto final, que consistía en gestionar una tienda de bicicletas simulada, requirió la colaboración con otros estudiantes, pensamiento estratégico y resolución de problemas del mundo real. «El aspecto comunicativo es fundamental; se convierte en parte de su día a día y luego usted lo traslada a su vida cotidiana», afirma Goldberg. «Luego, obviamente, está el aspecto técnico, los conocimientos empresariales reales que usted , los conocimientos contables que usted ... El simple hecho de tener esos conocimientos generales hace que todo encaje».

Prosperar en una empresa

Ahora trabaja en contabilidad pública y disfruta tanto del trabajo como del entorno. «La cultura de la empresa es excepcional, ya que fomenta un entorno propicio que favorece el crecimiento profesional», afirma. «Se aseguran de que usted y comprenda todo a medida que usted en su puesto».

En su trabajo diario, Goldberg organiza la información financiera de los clientes, se comunica directamente con ellos y prepara las declaraciones de impuestos, combinando los conocimientos técnicos que adquirió en Excelsior con las habilidades comunicativas que desarrolló al principio de su carrera. The University governing body, the board consists of individuals from across the country who are leaders in the fields of business, education, and government. An Excelsior alumna, Turman was recently appointed president of the Excelsior Alumni Leadership Council and will serve as an ex officio member of the board of trustees.

In her role as senior sales operations manager at Optum Serve, part of UnitedHealth Group, Turman specializes in executive-level reporting, process optimization, and strategic business development initiatives. Her background spans the banking, technology, and health insurance sectors, and she has experience in systems analysis and design, product delivery, business process consulting, and proposal management.

As an Excelsior alumna, it deeply meaningful to return in service to an institution that expanded access and opportunity at a pivotal point in my educational journey, said Turman. Im honored to join the board of trustees and to support Excelsior continued evolution as a university that meets learners where they are. I look forward to contributing to the stewardship and long-term impact of this remarkable institution.

A Fellow of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP), Turman also holds professional credentials in health care management and project management.

As a veteran of the U.S. Army, Clark held progressively senior ranks, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.During his service, headvisedU.S. Armed Forces leaders across multiple geographical locations, both domestic and abroad, on strategy,logistics, and resource planning. He also specialized in the deployment of large overseas logistical operations during combat, working with allies, foreign militaries, governments, and inter-agency partners.

He most recently held the position of CEO at AMVETS National Service Foundation in Lanham, Maryland, where he spearheaded the major transformation of theone of the countrylargest veterans service organizationswith a complex organizational structure, providing clear direction and governance while upholding the highest levels of ethics and fiduciary care. Previously, he held the position of chief appropriations advisor/national security director in the office of U.S. Rep. C. W. Bill Young.

De inmigrante a oficial

En 2013, cuando Jervaughn Miller tenía 18 años, su familia emigró de Jamaica a Estados Unidos en busca de una vida mejor. Los padres de Miller creían que a su hijo le esperaban mejores oportunidades. «No lo teníamos todo planeado, pero ellos creían en la promesa de que el trabajo duro y la dedicación podían conducir a algo mejor», afirma. Doce años después, Miller está en el ejército, tiene tres títulos universitarios y trabaja en la gestión de materiales peligrosos. Está demostrando que el sueño americano no es solo un cuento de hadas.

Durante su destino en la Bahía de Guantánamo, Cuba, entre diciembre de 2017 y octubre de 2018, Miller trabajó en turnos de noche como auxiliar médico. Pasaba la mayor parte de las noches atendiendo emergencias médicas y prestando asistencia sanitaria a sus compañeros. Una noche, su jefe reunió a todos los marineros frente a los alojamientos para explicarles lo que esperaba de ellos. Además, les dio un ultimátum: o bien se buscaban un pasatiempo, o bien volvían a estudiar.

«No podía dedicarme a ninguna afición ni practicar ningún deporte, así que opté por los estudios», afirma, recordando la convicción de sus padres de que en Estados Unidos se podía acceder a una mejor educación y a un futuro más prometedor. Esa convicción era algo muy personal para Miller y le acompañaría a lo largo de toda su carrera militar y académica.

Miller tenía que elegir una especialidad. Se decantó por la asistencia sanitaria, en parte debido a su función como auxiliar médico en el ejército. Sin embargo, sus obligaciones militares le dificultaban asistir a clases presenciales. Por ello, en lugar de centrarse en el aspecto clínico de la asistencia sanitaria, decidió centrarse en la prevención, las políticas y la salud pública.

Esos intereses le llevaron a la Universidad Excelsior (entonces llamada «College»). Los estándares educativos de la institución le causaron una gran impresión. Mientras estaba destinado en la base Naval Support Activity Orlando, poco después de su estancia en la Bahía de Guantánamo, completó su título de técnico superior (2019) y su licenciatura (2021), ambos en ciencias de la salud, antes de comenzar a cursar su Máster en Ciencias de la Salud.

En 2022, tras pasar ocho años en la Armada, Miller fue nombrado oficial del Ejército de los Estados Unidos. Decidió asistir al Curso Básico de Liderazgo para Oficiales en Materia Química, Biológica, Radiológica y Nuclear (CBRN) para empezar a centrarse en cuestiones de salud pública. No fue fácil; Miller cursó la formación al mismo tiempo que completaba su máster. No fue tarea fácil, pero se esforzó y terminó ambos programas en 2023.

Preparación para lo impensable

Aunque la mayoría de los días no se dedican a la respuesta activa ante crisis, Miller y su equipo se entrenan constantemente. Las jornadas de Miller comienzan a las 6:30 de la mañana con entrenamiento físico, seguido de tareas de mantenimiento de vehículos y simulacros. Arima,B.S.18,of Albuquerque,New Mexico,is anassistantdistrictattorney with the Second Judicial District Attorney Office in Bernalillo County, New Mexico. A veteran and practicing attorney, Arima career bridges public service, legal advocacy, and education. Before joining the District Attorney Office, he managed his own law firm, Arima Law,and previously served as a public defender with the New Mexico Law Offices of the Public Defender.Arima earned his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law (cum laude, with a Certificate in National Security and Counterterrorism Law), a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts from 911, and an Associate of Arts in Arabic from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center.

He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in mediation, constitutional law, and criminal justice at 911. A member of the American Bar Association, the New Mexico State Bar, the Albuquerque Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Justinian Society, and the Young Democrats of New Mexico, Arima has served as Chair of the ABA Young Lawyers Division Committee on Criminal Justice and as liaison to the Committee on Homelessness and Poverty.He is the author ofnumerousscholarly publications.
